Falling Home....

08/23/2025

I think the hardest thing about writing for me is to focus on one idea at a time.

Recently, I took on the task of going through my second novel, Falling Home, in an effort to bring up the storytelling to my current standards, as well as blend the other stories and characters from the other books more seamlessly. (What? You can do that? Balieed dat, homeboy, homegirl, homie? home-inary.

This was a task that was flawed from the start.

I love getting back into the story, having to put myself back into that mindset I had over ten years ago is a challenge, while also providing a fresh interpretation, all very fun stuff. But instead of bulldozing through it, I got inspired (I know, so lame, inspired by my own writing).

I liken it to when Jimmy Eat World went on a tour to celebrate the ten year anniversary of arguably their greatest album, Futures. After the tour, the band was inspired to make what would become Integrity Blues, and what you heard was reminiscent enough to the Futures album that they go seamlessly, hand-in-hand. Listen to "It Matters" and "Polaris" to hear what I mean.

So, it's a thing, and I jumped on that train to Gare Du Nord and found myself writing about these characters again in a fresh perspective. It was fun playing around with them, giving clues at what happened before and after the events of Falling Home and the Lawson City collection in general, really, a blast!

Problem.

Another character swooped in and said in my ear, "what about me?"

That character was Thomas Murdock, famous main character of The One You'll Need.

Whether I realized it or not, Murdock did not have a clear beginning. Sure, we saw him, penniless and busking in Falling Home, but his character was never drawn out. We know his ending, well… sorta… and TOYN covered the middle, but where's the beginning?

Well, readers, that's what I'm working on right now. I know. I need to stop. I need to get back to the Falling Home Redux so it can be available again. I know. I know!

Jeez. Relax already.

I joke. But we're getting there. I found my voice with this untitled Murdock story, and before I jump back into Falling Home, which has its own unique rhythm, I'll likely push through this new novel before I go back to FH. This might not be the best news for those who were confused about the characters in Lawson City: Disintegration with superhuman powers, but, alas, we'll get there. I promise. And, if you've ever read The One You'll Need, like Thomas Murdock, I won't break a promise.

FALLING HOME WILL SEE ITS RE-ISSUE!

Stay tuned, party people. And if you want first crack at that stuff, you're going to have to join my substack…. Baby.
